Fashion Museum will Host Tribute to Bill Gibbs
September 25, 2008

Styles change so fast that what is fashionable today is passé tomorrow, and in this ever changing world of fashion it is easy for designers to get lost. Sometimes, the best talents go unheard of because of the lightening speed with which the minds of the fashion conscious alter.
The Fashion Museum in Bath will display the designs of another forgotten designer from the 1970s in an exhibition titled in his honour, ‘Bill Gibbs: A Personal Journey’. Along with this display of Gibbs’ work, the curator R. Webb has also authored a book highlighting the best of Gibbs’ life and his talents in the field of fashion design. The display will include this leather panelled and printed skirt with matching hooded jacket which had been part of Gibbs’ first solo collection from 1972.
Gibbs’ designs are dramatic yet not flamboyant, with a sleek silhouette and a touch of an older era mixed with the fashionable of his time. The display which will showcase 25 ensembles created by the designer will begin on the 17th of October and will run for almost a year.
